Comments
The first symptoms of Grapevine flavescence dorée were reported in 1955 in Gascogne (first attributed to abiotic factors). The nature and identity of the pathogen were confirmed in the late 1960s. The disease has been found in the vineyards of Aquitaine, Charentes, Midi-Pyrénées, Languedoc-Roussillon, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Pays de Loire and Corse. In northern vineyeards, it has been found very locally in Bourgogne, Champagne and Savoie.

EPPO Reporting Service (1993/94) : specific probes to authentic grapevine flavescence dorée from southern FR do not detect MLOs in symptomatic material from other parts of FR.

EPPO Reporting Service (1994/166) confirms that true flavescence dorée only occurs in the south, the form in Bourgogne being serologically distinct (bois noir).

EPPO Reporting Service (1995/232) : flavescence dorée not present in Alsace. Well contained in Bourgogne, Champagne, Centre and Pays de Loire. Stable in Jura and Rhône-Alpes. Active foci in Aquitaine, progressing in Midi-Pyrénées. Bois noir present in Auvergne, Bourgogne; together with flavescence dorée in Midi-Pyrénées and Rhône-Alpes. Yet another (unidentified) yellows agent in Bourgogne and Val de Loire.

EPPO Reporting Service (2001/166) : no new outbreaks in 2001, but one in Savoie in 2000. Older outbreaks in Bordeaux and Languedoc areas are in regression, through chemical control of the vector

EPPO Reporting Service (2003/153) : stable, but small number of new outbreaks in Tarn-et-Garonne, Vaucluse, Gironde, Charente, Charente-Maritime

EPPO Reporting Service (2007/011) : first finds in Bourgogne in 2004 and 2005, under eradication. Nothwithstanding earlier reports (cf. above) which may have involved confusion with yellows due to other agents, flavescence dorée is now stated to occur in the regions Aquitaine, Poitou-Charentes, Midi-Pyrénées, Languedoc-Roussillon, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Pays de Loire, Corse, and very locally in Bourgogne and Champagne-Ardennes.

From NPPO (2017): 1 plant of Vitis Vinifera contaminated by the Grapevine flavescence dorée phytoplasma was found in a field in Vindey (Champagne-Ardenne region), in the protected zone. Eradication measures are applied and surveillance will be increased.
