Xylella fastidiosa(XYLEFA)
Distribution details in Taiwan
First recorded in: 1990
From CABI Disease map 262 (2015): Present, no details
EPPO Reporting Service (1994/49) : first record on Asian pear (Pyrus pyrifolia).
EPPO Reporting Service (1996/204) : present on pear causing leaf scorch in several regions (only 2 out of 10 were free), with incidence from 5 to 43%.
EPPO Reporting Service (2007/187) : strains from Taiwan (causing pear leaf scorch) formed a cluster distinct from other known clusters of X. fastidiosa.
According to Su et al. (2012), pear strains from Taiwan could possibly belong to a new subspecies of X. fastidiosa.
EPPO Reporting Service (2013/118) : grapevine Pierce's disease is reported for the first time in Taiwan (this is also a first record for Asia).
EPPO Reporting Service (2016/135) : Kolla paulula and Bothrogonia ferruginea (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) are insect vectors of Pierce's disease in Taiwan.
EPPO Reporting Service (2017/103) : further molecular and phylogenetic studies have shown that the bacterial strain isolated from P. pyrifolia in Taiwan is a new and distinct species which has been tentatively called Xylella taiwanensis sp. nov.
Kao and Su (2021): Pierce's disease eradicated in Taiwan.
