Pest status declared by NPPO: Present few occurrences under eradication (2021-02)
A single record in 1996, on a farm in Brandenburg producing ware and fodder potatoes. The origin of the planting material could not be determined. Strict phytosanitary measures have been applied.
EPPO Reporting Service (1997/111) : no further reports. A survey of water from potato-processing plants gave negative results in 1996.
EPPO Reporting Service (1997/132) : 1997 tests on potatoes harvested in Germany in 1996, or imported from Netherlands, gave for Bayern state three positive results for seed potatoes and two for ware potatoes.
EPPO Reporting Service (1998/142) : tests on the 1997 harvest and were negative for seed potatoes, but two positive samples of ware potatoes were found in Bayern. One positive imported seed-potato sample was found (from Netherlands). Confirmed in EPPO Reporting Service (1999/054) .
EPPO Reporting Service (2000/137) : on the 1998 harvest, 14896 samples were tested. only two positive results. Status is "Present: at very low prevalence, under eradication".
EPPO Reporting Service (2001/043) : on the 1999 harvest, 16561 samples tested. Infection found in a limited area, for 2 growers, on a total of 11 plots. Probably results from introduction of infected planting material.
EPPO Reporting Service (2001/106) : found at 3 scattered locations on Pelargonium zonale, probably associated with imported cuttings from Kenya. Eradication measures applied.
EPPO Reporting Service (2001/189) : in 2000 potato production, 11816 samples taken for seed potatoes and 5152 for ware. Infection was not found in potato, but one sample of water and two of Solanum dulcamara were positive.
EPPO Reporting Service (2003/086) : of 10827 seed potato samples and 4555 ware potato samples, infection was found only in 1 ware potato sample. Watercourses were found to contaminated at 4 sites previously found positive
EPPO Reporting Service (2004/155) : recalls the history of finds of R. solanacearum on pelargonium in different European countries, including Germany (cf . EPPO Reporting Service (2001/106) , above)
EPPO Reporting Service (2005/157) : in 2004 testing programme, one case was found in seed potato production and none in ware productions. Water bodies found to be contaminated in earlier years remained so, and one new river was found to be contaminated.
EPPO Reporting Service (2012/139) : detected in March 2012 in potted plants of Pelargonium, all infected plants have been destroyed.

------- In annual surveys from 1995-2016, R. solanacearum [phylotype IIB-1] was detected in 45 lots of ware potato (3 in 1996, 2 in 1997, 15 in 1998, 11 in 1999, 5 in 2001, 1 in 2002, 1 in 2003, 1 in 2007, 3 in 2008, 1 in 2010 and 2 in 2014) and 9 lots of seed potatoes (3 in 1996, 1 in 2004, 1 in 2009. 1 in 2011 and 3 in 2013). Official eradication measures were taken. R. solanacearum was also detected in 20 of 65 samples of surface water and 2 of 134 samples of processing waste in 2015.
