EPPO Reporting Service 509/17: from country itself (1993) it is absent.

EPPO Reporting Service (1996/109) : though the abstract of Takahashi (1987) published in Review of Plant Pathology indicates presence in Japan, this is an error. Five other viroids are indicated as present in Japan, but not PSTVd. The viroid does not occur, and has never occurred, in Japan, where it is a quarantine pest.

EPPO Reporting Service (2012/061) : detected in 2 samples which had been collected in 2008 from tomato plants cultivated in the Fukushima prefecture.

According to Fujiwara et al. (2013), the outbreak on tomato found in Fukushima prefecture was eradicated. In 2009 and 2010, PSTVd was detected in dahlia plants grown in Yamanashi prefecture.

According to Tsushima et al. (2019), an outbreak found in 2011 on dahlia plants in Akita prefecture has been eradicated.
