Palm lethal yellowing type syndromes(PHYP56)
Distribution details in Mexico
First recorded in: 1978
From CABI Disease map 768 (1998): Present, restricted distribution
From NPPO: Present, restricted distribution
EPPO Reporting Service 512/07 of 1991: recorded on Yucatán Peninsula in 1978 (Yucatán state only, unconfirmed in the other states).
From country itself (1992): present in Quintana Roo (Holbox Is., Mujeres Is., Cancún, Punta Nizuc, Punta Morelos, Punta Allen, Playa del Carmén, Tulum, Cozumel, Carrillo Puerto, Zaragoza Is.), Yucatán (El Cuyo, X-Can, Chichen-Itza, Valladolid).
EPPO Reporting Service (1993/125) : also in state of Campeche. Has destroyed 850000 trees corresponding to 8500 ha of plantations. Now found on Isla del Carmen threatening the major coconut-producing regions of Tabasco, Veracruz and the Pacific coast.
According to Harrison et al. (1994), Yucatán lethal decline is caused by a phytoplasma distinct from palm lethal yellowing in the Caribbean.
EPPO Reporting Service (2003/049) : atypical forms detected in Yucatán in 1997/1998.
