In 1996, an outbreak was found at one site in Rheinland-Pfalz (area about 0.4 ha). Infected trees were felled and destroyed by burning and chemical treatment. A surrounding buffer zone of about 40 ha will be subject to detection surveys until 2000.
EPPO Reporting Service (1998/32) : two more infected trees were found in 1997-08 in the buffer zone around the above outbreak. All Quercus and Castanea trees felled in a surrounding zone of 15-20 m. Site will remain under surveillance.
EPPO Reporting Service (2017/086) : found on 2 trees growing in a forest during a research project on sweet chestnuts in Bavaria. Before this finding, the fungus was known to occur in Germany only in parts of Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate.
