Notes

A cultivated cereal and fodder plant originating in Turkey and Caucasus, where it still occurs in the wild. Introduced into most of the Euromediterranean region in ancient times as a weed of cereal crops, but now declining. Widespread as the cultivated species in temperate regions (including Siberia, Central Asia, China, northern part of Indian subcontinent, and also North America).
