EPPO Reporting Service 512/03 of 1991-01-06. Confirmed by EPPO Reporting Service (94/075) as specifically in Kriti. Nevertheless, EPPO Reporting Service (97/140) recalls that TSWV was first reported in Greece in 1972, in tobacco in the north. After a long stable period, in 1989 it was found in vegetables in the north. This recent spread is associated with the introduction of Frankliniella occidentalis, which has taken over the role of main vector from Thrips tabaci. In 1995/1996, very high incidence in tobacco crops in most growing areas. Also severe attacks in tomato and capsicum crops in the glasshouse and in the field. Many ornamentals also affected.
