------- Between 1999 and 2006 all isolates of R. solanacearum were characterized as belonging to biovar 2A (R. solanacearum [phylotype IIB-1]). In 2007, biovar 1 strains were recorded in potato fields under a confined area in Baixo Mondego (former Lower Mondego sub-region of the Centro region), now the Coimbra district of the Centro region of Portugal.

------- In annual surveys from 1996-2016, R. solanacearum [phylotype IIB-1] was detected in 283 lots of ware potato (43 lots in 1996, 1 in 1997, 84 in 1998, 49 in 1999, 20 in 2000, 7 in 2001, 5 in 2002, 6 in 2003, 4 in 2004, 2 in 2005, 10 in 2006, 7in 2007, 1 in 2008, 8 in 2010, 19 in 2011, 1 in 2013, 2 in 2014, 3 in 2015 and 1 in 2016) but not in seed seed potato tested during this period. Only in 2009 and 2012, were there no findings in potato during this period. Official eradication measures were taken. R. solanacearum was detected in 1 of 7 samples of irrigation water in 2015.
