Gutarra et al. (2017): In Peru, bacterial wilt was first reported in 1967 in banana and plantain and in tomato along the Amazon river. In potato, it was first discovered in the highlands of the departments of Ancash, Cajamarca, and La Libertad and in central Peru in the department of Junin. Surprisingly it was also found in potato planted on virgin soils in the Amazon basin in the Northern part of the country at Yurimaguas in the department of Loreto, suggesting that it was endemic to the area.

-------- Bacterial wilt was present in 19 of 39 potato fields surveyed in 2016 in central and northern Peru in the departments of Piura, Amazonas, Ancash, Cajamarca, and Huanuco, between the altitudes 2111 and 3742 m above sea level. All isolates were identified as R. solanacearum [phylotype IIB-1]. Reference isolates (265) collected in Peru between 1966 and 2016 from potato, pepper, tomato, plantain and soil were identified as either Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum [phylotype I] or R. solanacearum [phylotypes IIA or IIB].
