PSTVd was first reported in 2007 on asymptomatic plants of Solanum jasminoides and S. rantonnetii in Lazio and Puglia. Detected in Liguria in 2008 on S. jasminoides and nearby tomatoes.
EPPO Reporting Service (2008/008) : PSTVd detected in symptomless ornamental Solanaceae (Solanum jasminoides, S. rantonnetii) in Puglia (Southern Italy).
Official surveys conducted in 2009 detected PSTVd in 21 samples of Solanum jasminoides from nurseries in Lazio region, all infected lots were destroyed. PSTVd was not detected in other Italian regions.
EPPO Reporting Service (2009/137) : PSTVd was detected in autumn 2008 in Liguria region in Solanum jasminoides and nearby tomatoes (family garden). It is suspected that infected plants of S. jasminoides were the source of infection.
EPPO Reporting Service (2011/108) : PSTVd was detected in 2010 in a few lots of Solanum jasminoides and Cestrum. All infected lots were destroyed. PSTVd is absent in potato production.
EPPO Reporting Service (2011/155) : detected in symptomless ornamentals in Liguria and Campania, all infected plant material has been destroyed.
