Comments
In USA, Phytophthora ramorum occurs in coastal evergreen forests of California and Oregon where it causes sudden oak death. It was also reported from various states in nurseries causing leaf necrosis and twig dieback on various ornamental species; trade of nursery plants being an obvious means of spreading the pathogen. In USA, P. ramorum is subject to containment and eradication measures.

EPPO Reporting Service (2001/002) : the agent of sudden oak death in California is an Phytophthora similar to P. ramorum isolated on Rhododendron in The Netherlands. Many experts believe it to be the same fungus, but there are some differences whose significance remains to be determined.

EPPO Reporting Service (2005/160) : general update on situation.

EPPO Reporting Service (2011/003) : detected on a single Abies magnifica tree (in a Christmas tree plantation in California).

EPPO Reporting Service (2014/015) : detected on Cinnamomum camphora (urban trees in Mill Valley, Marin county - nursery trees in Sacramento county).
