From DGAV (2019): present in several regions (Alentejo, Algarve, Azores, Centro, Madeira, Oporto, Vale do Tejo). Under containment.

EPPO Reporting Service (2009/022) : symptoms on potato crops started to be observed in 2004 near Porto (north) but the pest was identified as 'Epitrix similaris' in 2008. It spread towards the south and is considered to be widespread in potato-growing areas.

EPPO Reporting Service (2015/203) : it is now considered that earlier records of E. similaris were misidentifications of E. papa. Symptoms started to be observed in Northern Portugal in 2004. The native area of E. papa is unknown.

EPPO Reporting Service (2017/165) : in 2017, E. papa and E. cucumeris were found in 3 potato fields located in the municipality of Santa Susana (county of Alcácer do Sal), Alentejo.

EPPO Reporting Service (2018/024) : more specimens of E. papa and E. cucumeris found in 1 potato field in the municipality of Ferreirim (Lemago county, Norte region).

From NPPO (2018-07): suspicious symptoms of Epitrix were detected on tubers and a few adults of E. papa were collected using a sweeping net in one plot, in the county of Longueira /Almograve, Alentejo.

From NPPO (2018-09 and 2018-11): Adults of E. papa and E. cucumeris were captured on Solanum nigrum and Datura stramonium growing in plots of potato, tomato and capsicum located in the municipality Borba, Alentejo.

From NPPO (2018-09): Adults of E. papa and E. cucumeris were collected during official surveys in the municipality of Moncarapacho and Tavira, Algarve.

EPPO Reporting Service (2019/092) : found in Madeira.

The demarcated area was updated accordingly and appropriate official measures are being taken.
