Bean golden mosaic virus (BGMV, now Begomovirus costai) and bean golden yellow mosaic virus (BGYMV, now Begomovirus birdi) were separated in the 1990s. Literature prior to this separation considered all records as bean golden mosaic virus (including in the EPPO/CABI Data Sheet, 1997). Many records of 'bean golden mosaic virus' in the literature prior to this separation relate to B. birdi.
