Comments
In the EFSA pest categorization (2017), an interception reported by Belgium in 2012 (BE/FAVV/2012/121) was taken into account to question the distribution of Unaspis citri in Uzbekistan and Turkey and to list Vitis as a possible host plant. Subsequent investigations have shown that this interception record was based on a mistake made on the electronic reporting form (where a box had mistakenly been ticked indicating the presence of a quarantine pest, U. citri).
In fact, the intercepted consignment of raisins had been exported by Turkey and originally produced in Uzbekistan. It was infested by Oryzaephilus surinamensis (2 living adults), Ephestia spp. (1 living larva and 1 living adult) and Plodia interpunctella (2 living larvae) [but not by U. citri]. In addition to pest infestations, these raisins contained excessive levels of ochratoxin A.
