Notes

Eastern Mediterranean, Caucasus. A tetraploid wheat hybrid, cultivated in ancient times, from which were derived various hard wheats such as T. durum, widely used for making different forms of pasta. Its parents are probably T. urartu x Aegilops sp. , by hybridization and chromosome doubling, the stages in which are referred to as subsp. dicoccoides and subsp. durum
