Introduced in Europe (mainly western Euromediterranean), Caucasus, Central Asia, Russian Far East, Western Asia (Oman, Pakistan), Himalayas, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Indochina (except Cambodia), Malesia (Java, Philippines), China (Taiwan), Korea, Cameroon, Tchad, Ethiopia, Zaïre to Angola, Zimbabwe, Zambia, South Africa, USA (scattered), Caribbean (Cuba, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico), South America (Guyanas to Colombia, to Bolivia)
Some authors consider that T. patula (q.v.) is conspecific with T. erecta
