Initially described as Phoma andina var. chrystalliniformis in Colombia, then considered as a separate species (Stagonosporopsis crystalliniformis). It causes necrotic spots on all aerial parts of tomato plants followed by plant necrosis and mummification of fruits. Also causing leaf spots on potatoes. According to Loerakker et al. (1986), it is restricted to the Andes at altitudes 1500-3700 m and frequently isolated from leaf spots on potatoes at altitudes > 3000 m.
