This variety of sorghum is not now considered to merit a separate scientific name, and is simply a form of S. bicolor.
Note that in 2024 the International Botanical Congress voted to replace words such as caffra, which is considered a racial slur, and appears in over 300 plants, fungi and algae names, with the words afra, afrorum, and afrum to denote their African origins.
