Rose rosette disease was first described in the early 1940s in Manitoba (Canada) and the Rocking Mountains on wild roses, and has emerged as one of the most devastating disease of roses in the US. The disease is currently spreading and its incidence is increasing. Its putative causal agent, Rose rosette virus, was identified in 2011 (Laney et al., 2011).
