Old records from Malaysia (including Sabah, Sarawak) are now thought likely to be of R. vulneratus, or R. bilineatus. However, the presence of R. ferrugineus was confirmed in 2007 in the state of Terengganu (West Malaysia) in coconut plantations. The pest then spread of other states (Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, and Kelantan).
