The record appearing in the 1993 version of CABI distribution was based on a misunderstanding of a paper by Hirose and Nojima (1978). This paper was in fact describing experiments on Peronosclerospora maydis conducted in thee eastern part of Java, Indonesia and NOT in Japan. The absence of the pathogen has been confirmed by the NPPO of Japan via correspondance to CABI in 2021.
