Notes

Southern Europe, western Mediterranean, Western Asia. Cultivated as a fruit tree, and as a rootstock for other Prunus spp. This subspecies is believed to have had a wider native distribution than subsp. domestica (which more probably has an eastern origin). Both subspecies occur naturalized as escapes from cultivation
