Native to the far east (Kurile Islands, Vladivostok).
EPPO Reporting Service (1996/120) : confirmed as only in Sakhalin province.
Kurbatov (2013) also confirms that it only occurs on the Island of Kunashir (southermost island of the Greater Kurile Ridge - Sakhalin oblast).
EPPO Reporting Service (2025/255) : appears in the 2024 report of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of the Russian Federation as a quarantine pest of limited distribution in Russia: present in 1 federal subject (2,000 ha).
