Popillia japonica(POPIJA)

Distribution details in China

Situation
Current pest situation evaluated by EPPO on the basis of information dated 2014: Absent, invalid record
From CABI Pest map 016 (1978): Present, restricted distribution
From NPPO: Absent, invalid record
Comments
Indigenous in the North. However, the Chinese Administration of Animal and Plant Quarantine reports that this is a mistaken identification; the pest concerned is Popillia quadriguttata.

According to Chen et al. (2014), it is considered that 20th century references to the Japanese beetle in China (Fleming, 1972) were in fact P. quadriguttata.
