Notes

China (including Taiwan), Japan (introduced in ancient times). Widely grown as a timber bamboo (the most used species in Japan). One of the largest bamboos to be widely used as an ornamental.  It also has edible shoots. Introduced in Black Sea, Himalayas, Indochina, Korea, USA, South America (Ecuador, eastern Brazil), Australia (Queensland), New Zealand

The name P. bambusioides is widely used for this species.
