This is the cultivated plant. Its origin is uncertain, though possibly in the Central Mediterranean region. Widely cultivated as a culinary herb, in many varieties, often occurring as a casual weed. Introduced in most of Euromediterranean region, Central Asia, Indochina, South Africa, Central and South America
