Comments
According to information from the South African NPPO, records of M. fructicola in the Southwestern Cape can be traced back to a 1953 publication by Doidge (A revised list of plant diseases occurring in South Africa). Surveys show that it is not present now (though M. laxa is present). The same publication mentioned M. fructicola in Transvaal at that time but the record is very doubtful.

The absence of Monilinia fructicola in South Africa has been confirmed by surveys carried out in stone fruit orchards (Carstens et al., 2010).
