Comments
EPPO Reporting Service (2016/214) : first found in August 2016 in a single Castanea sativa plant in a rural area of Southern England. Under eradication.

According to Lewis et al. (2017): following the above finding, Gnomoniopsis sp. that had been recovered from sweet chestnut trees between 2011-2013 in the UK from chestnut orchards, a nursery and private residences were also identified as G. smithogilvyi. The 2016 finding appears to be unconnected with the earlier records.

This pest has been assessed for the Risk Register and is considered to pose a low risk to the UK. No further statutory action taken.
