EPPO Reporting Service (1996/05) : first report in 1995, a single beetle caught in a trap near the Serbian border. No other individuals caught in extensive trapping programme.
EPPO Ad Hoc Panel on Diabrotica (1996-10-15): in 1996, many more trapped in eastern Slavonia, mostly close to Serbian border but some up to 100 km from it; no breeding populations yet found in maize fields.
EPPO Reporting Service (1997/33) : 788 adults trappled in eastern part of country (714 in Vikovarsko-srijemska county, adjoining Serbia), 66 in Osjecko-baranjska county, adjoining Hungary, 8 in Brodsko-posavska county (adjoining Bosnia-Herzegovina).
EPPO Reporting Service (1998/01) : in 1997, about 3500 beetles were trapped from July to October. Area where adults are trapped has now reached 9000 km2 and front line of outbreak is 100 km from Yugoslav border.
EPPO Reporting Service (2000/031) : continued to spread in 1999. Two new counties are infested (Koprivnicko-Krizevacka, Bjelovarsko-Bilogorska). Infested areas estimated at 12750 km2. Population densities are increasing but economic damage has still not been seen
EPPO Reporting Service (2001/003) : further spread to the west, to a point only 40 km from Slovenia. Damage observed in some fields, related to very dry conditions.
EPPO Reporting Service (2002/001) : no further spread in 2001, but population levels increased.
EPPO Reporting Service (2003/001) : some further spread to the west. Total infested area now around 19000 km2. Heavy damage observed for the first time, in the east.
EPPO Reporting Service (2004/058) : total infested area in 2003 now 23500 km2 (80% of Croatian maize production). Economic damage from larval attacks. Crop rotation recommended
