Notes

Europe, Black Sea, Western Asia, Central Asia. Locally cultivated for its fruits. Subsp. vulgaris occurs throughout the range of the species, while subspp. australis and seroi occur in the southwest. At one time, a common European plant, but now reduced by its removal as the alternate host of Puccinia graminis, and by the general disappearance of hedgerows. Introduced in North America
