Notes

Originating from South America and introduced in the 1910s as a pollinator
in South Africa. Adults feed on pollen and larvae live in the soil and feed on
decaying plants.


Occasional pest: beetles may damage flowers and seeds;
larvae may feed on young plants. Adult beetles can be toxic (batrachotoxins)
to cattle when ingested in large numbers.
