Comments
An early record on rice (Orsenigo, 1954) is questionable and needs confirmation. The first authentic record is on glasshouse-grown Narcissus pseudonarcissus in Puglia (Vovlas & Lamberti, 1973).

EPPO Reporting Service (1996/076): 4 specimens observed on rice seeds from farm at Molinella in Bologna province, in 1996.

EPPO Reporting Service (1999/086) : surveys since 1996 have shown presence at low levels in rice seeds in Emilia-Romagna, Lombardia, Piemonte and Veneto. Symptoms seen in some rice fields in 1998

EPPO Reporting Service (2000/077) : in 1999 found at low levels in rice seeds in Piemonte-Val d'Aosta and Lombardia

EPPO Reporting Service (2008/036) : after 10 years of phytosanitary measures, the number of infested rice seed lots has been reduced from 17% in 1996 to 2% in 2006. The nematode has been eliminated from many rice varieties (certification). Infestation is now below the economic damage threshold.
