India, Sri Lanka, China, Indochina, Malesia (for the nominate subspecies). An internationally traded tropical timber. Several other subspecies of A. toxicaria have been distinguished, but their nomenclature is not clear. In one interpretation subsp. welwitschii is found in Africa, subsp. macrophylla in New Guinea, Australia and eastern Malesia, and other subspp. in Madagascar.
