Introduced in Hawaii in 1936.

In continental USA, a single single infestation was found in 1969 in Florida and eradicated (USDA, 1982). The pest was found again in September 2011 in a residential area in Miami. An eradication programme was implemented and the giant African snail was declared officially eradicated in January 2022.

EPPO Reporting Service (2023/154) : found again in June 2023 in the Miramar area of Broward county (Florida). Under eradication.
