EPPO Reporting Service (2002/059) : in addition to a specific citation for Wisconsin, and a reference to Vermont, this report also refers to northeastern states generally, without details.

According to Broders et al. (2015), butternut canker was first reported in Wisconsin in 1967 but the causal fungus was identified in 1979. It then quickly spread throughout the entire range of butternut in North America.
