------- Survey of main potato growing area in Mérida state (1992-96). Three biovars (1, 2 and 3) of R. solanacearum sensu lato identified on potato (suggesting presence of R. pseudosolanacearum [phylotype I] and R. solanacearum [phylotype II]). Bacterial wilt disease incidence increased from 22% in 1992 to 37% in 1996, with a variable infestation percentage area per farm ranging between 5 and 75%.
