First specimens were found in 2009 in a canal (Todo Mexicano) in Baja Califonia. Then found in several other locations in the same area. Thought to have spread to Mexican waters through the tributaries of the Colorado River from a population originally introduced in Yuma, Arizona (US) around 2005.
