Distribution details in Serbia

Situation
Current pest situation evaluated by EPPO on the basis of information dated 2011: Present, few occurrences
Comments
Although 'elm yellows' observed in North America and Europe present different symptoms and disease severity, the phytoplasmas associated with them are very closely related (if not belonging to the same species).

EPPO Reporting Service (2009/217) : in September 2007, mild leaf yellowing symptoms were observed on 18 elm trees near the villages of Srednjevo, Ljubičevo and Šuvajić (north-east Serbia). Molecular tests confirmed the presence of ‘Ca. Phytoplasma ulmi’ in samples of U. minor (from Srednjevo and Ljubičevo) and in samples of U. laevis (from Šuvajić).

------- High diversity of EY phytoplasmas in elms trees in Serbia (as in France and Czech Republic) might suggest that 'Ca. P. ulmi' originates from Europe.
