EPPO Global Database

'Candidatus Phytoplasma aurantifolia'(PHYPAF)

Distribution details in India (Andhra Pradesh)

Situation
Current pest situation evaluated by EPPO on the basis of information dated 2021: Absent, unreliable record
From CABI Disease map 792 (1999): Present, no details
Comments
EPPO Reporting Service (1999/171) : symptoms first seen on Citrus aurantiifolia in eastern Maharasthra. Surveys in 1995/1998 showed the disease to be present in other lime-producing states (Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu).

Note (2021): although symptoms of a disease resembling lime witches' broom were reported on C. aurantifolia in 1999 from India, it is still unclear whether it is the same phytoplasma species. In their paper, Bové et al. (2000) already noted some differences in the symptomatology of the disease observed in India and the one observed in Oman, United Arab Emirates and Iran. In the absence of more recent conclusive studies, the record for India is now considered doubtful.
