First found in 2019 (but identified at that time as Phenacoccus sisymbriifolium) in Lake county. It rapidly spread to other counties (20 in 2024: Alachua, Brevard, Broward, Collier, Dixie, Hernando, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lake, Marion, Okaloosa, Orange, Palm Beach, Pasco, Polk, Putnam, St Johns, St. Lucie, Sumter and Volusia).
