In April 2009, a severe rust outbreak was observed on soybean cv. Conquista in Jovellanos, Matanzas province. The presence of P. pachyrhizi (together with P. meibomiae) was confirmed by molecular tests. It is also noted that an earlier rust outbreak had been observed on soybean in September 2006, followed by minor outbreaks in legumes and beans, but the identity of the pathogens could not be confirmed at that time.
