The NPPO has been informed by Dr Yair Ben-Dov that the record in Israel (USDA, 1984) was based on an erroneous quarantine report. An unknown passenger on an Israeli passenger plane carrying an infested orange fruit was quarantined at the USA, but the orange most likely came from another Mediterranean country. This species has not been collected in Israel until now (2011).
