Comments
EPPO Reporting Service (1996/62) : found in suspect seed samples in Arizona in 1996-03. Then, after statewide survey, confirmed in four cvs of durum wheat . Seed batches coming from Arizona sent to and planted in New Mexico and Texas gave infected crops. Emergency quarantine measures applied.

EPPO Reporting Service (1998/43) : 1997 records in Alabama and Tennessee finally shown to be a morphologically similar ryegrass bunt. Over 4100 samples tested for T. indica, nationwide, in 1997, and only one positive result obtained, on a sample from San Saba county (Texas).

According to the results of the US survey programme, the disease is confined in Arizona. Regulated areas are still located in the counties of La Paz, Maricopa and Pinal (as of April 2017).

NPPO (2022): reduction of the size of the regulated area in Maricopa and Pinal Counties.
