EPPO Reporting Service (2011/004) : according the Carneiro et al. (2007), it occurs in the Central Valley over an area of approximately 1000 km, being detected from the Copiapo valley (north of Santiago) to Talca. M. ethiopica was found on grapevine, kiwi and tomato in several localities in 5 regions: Atacama (III), Valparaiso (V), O’Higgins (VI), Maule (VII), region Metropolitana de Santiago.

According to Aballay et al. (2013), M. ethiopica is one of the most important nematode species affecting grapevine in Chile (being very aggressive and difficult to control).
