Rarely and only naturally dispersed to Denmark by wind in the summertime, without any establishment due to unsuitable climate conditions.
First found in 1949 in Southern Jutland. In the 1970s and 1980s, the beetle was occasionally found in Southern Denmark, with two major outbreaks in 1972 and 1983. For a long period, overwintering beetles were no longer found. The obligation to report findings of Colorado beetles was lifted in 1997. Since the early 2000s, beetles have been occasionally found in Southern Denmark. It is considered that the winter climate combined with treatments that are made in potato fields do not allow introductions and establishment of the pest. Colorado beetles are observed only very rarely caused by occasional wind dispersal in the summer by the wind from the south. In recent years, the Colorado beetle has been found more often in Denmark, due to the wind dispersal, and in some few earlier cases it was able to overwinter, but causing no establishment in Denmark.
