Comments
First reported in 1971 on Pinus resinosa and P. sylvestris. In 1976, the European race of G. abietina was isolated from Scots pine growing in Greensboro. In 1977, phytosanitary measures were implemented (restriction on the movement of plants, annual surveys). From 1971 to 1996, 126 pine plantations have been found infested in north central Vermont. In 1996, most affected plantations showed only low levels of infection and mortality was rare. Since 2006, the fungus has not been detected. The State of Vermont now considers that G. abietina is absent.
