First described in 1915 causing damage to citrus trees in the state of Sao Paulo. At the end of the 1980s, it became an economically important citrus pest. In Sao Paulo state, yield losses of up to 50% have been reported. In 2000, crop losses were estimated at 50 million USD per year.
