In 2015, the NPPO indicated that although the bacterium had been recorded in the past, it no longer occurs in Canada. Evidence was put forward, indicating that as a result of seed testing, seed certification and the growing of highly resistant cultivars, there have been no reports of the bacterium in recent years (at least since 1999). In addition, lucerne seed production was surveyed in the 3 seed-producing provinces (Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan) and the bacterium was not detected (at least since 2000).
