BSV was detected in 1997 in a germplasm collection and its surroundings (several fields in Southern Taiwan). However, from 1997 to 1999, eradication measures were taken and all infested banana plants were removed. The virus has no longer been found and is now considered absent from Taiwan (CABI correspondance with the NPPO of Taiwan, 2008-05).
